Movement Exploration
Move When I Stop
One person is the leader. When the leader is moving everyone else is frozen. As soon as the leader stops, everyone else gets to move. As soon as the leader starts moving again, everyone must freeze. Suggestions: 1. Choose a piece of music that everyone enjoys and the leader needs to move expressively with the music. I Think I Hear the Ending Coming... One person is the leader and they will say the words, "I think I hear the ending coming now it's time to stop." While they are saying those words everyone gets to move around the room, but as soon as the leader says stop, everyone must freeze until the leader starts the phrase again. Suggestions: Explore all the different ways the phrase can be said. (Talking, Singing, Fast, Slow, Loud , Soft, etc.) Mirrors A student and their partner stand facing each other. One person is the leader and the other person is the mirror. The mirror's job is to match whatever movements the leader makes as if the leader is looking in a mirror. So if the leader waves their hand, the mirror should wave their hand at the same time. If the leader nods their head, the mirror should nod their head at the same time. The leader should remember to move slow enough that the mirror can keep up with them. Have fun! |
Based on the movement themes of Rudolph Laban, Movement Exploration Activities are presented to broaden the children's understanding of movement possibilities. Through these activities students develop body coordination as well as expressive sensitivity.
